What is your background?
I have a long history in graphic design, as well as formal education in architecture. I have found my education in architecture to be invaluable in the graphic design process, and my unique, construction-oriented perspective from this education allows me to approach graphic design challenges in a way many designers can't, which does make my designs unique.
How will the design process go if I hire you?
We will start by discussing your design needs to make sure we are a good match. If I feel your project is out of my scope of specialty, I'll refer you to a designer who I think can better design your project. Otherwise, we'll agree on a schedule, price, and other project details. I'll put all of the details into writing so there are no surprises, and you can feel confident that you are guaranteed to get exactly what you need. Once the project guidelines and requirements are set up, you will pay the agreed-upon deposit (typically 35% of the total price), and I will begin work. We will go through several reiterations on several different design concepts, or ideas, depending on the comprehensiveness of the service requested, and we will discuss the project at each scheduled milestone to make sure that the design stays on track. After completion, you will receive all the agreed-upon files, or printed materials if you request that I broker the printing, and you will be invoiced for the remaining cost of the project.
Are there any other expenses associated with hiring you besides design costs?
Not typically. If the project is of an unusually large scope, there may be charges for photography, props, models, travel, materials, shipping, etc. However, if that is the case, expense estimates will be included from the beginning. Shipping on standard graphic design projects is already included in my design fee, so there is no extra charge for standard shipping.
What methods of payment do you accept?
Paying by check is generally the easiest method of payment for both parties. However, I can accommodate other forms of payment in unusual circumstances.
How much do you charge for design projects?
Design fees can vary widely on projects. Logo design, typically an intensive design project due to its high exposure, normally ranges between $800-$1000 with a high-level of usage rights. On the other hand, smaller projects like business cards or letterhead more typically cost $300. I am happy to offer free estimates on projects if you contact me. I also offer discounts for humanitarian organizations and other special situations. Ask me about them!
What if I am not satisfied with the design?
During the review process on the proofs I submit to you, I allow you to terminate the assignment if you are not reasonably satisfied with the design. Please note that if you want to cancel the assignment for reasons other than a dissatisfying design, a cancellation fee is associated with this action if the design process has already reached a significant stage.
